Antigone The play, Antigone by Sophocles, was written in the mid 400’s B.C. Sophocles was a Greek playwright and he is most nonable for his trilogy, Oedipus Rex, Oedipus at Colonus, and Antigone. In Antigone, the main characters are 2 females and two males, Antigone, Ismene, Creon, and Haimon. The females in Greek society did non create the equivalence and rights as women today. The women had to abide and dress a certain way. Antigone was not a characteristic Greek woman. Women in ancient Greek society were not treated with the respect and independence as today’s women get. Ancient Greece was a patriarchal society, which office that everything was dominated by males. The males controlled the women.
