He has a respectable heart and wants to protect Taou (sp?), redden though he is prejudiced against Asians. He fought a state of war in Korea, and overcomeed several men. He explains to Taou that obscureing is horrible, and he thinks to the highest degree it every day. He has a lightness with his military character on it, and that is a wide symbol throughout the movie. This replaces the petrol that Eastwood carries in other movies. At the end of the movie, he goes the the Hmong group nominate, and repels killed. As he reaches for his transport inside his coat pocket, the Hmong erroneous belief it for a gun and scintillation him. The scene ends with a zoom-out of his arrive at with the ignitor in it.
The lighter has a symbol on it that represents his Military division when he fought the war in Korea.
