Abstinence-Only vs Abstinence-Plus
While watching MTVs jar against show Teen Mom, has it ever occurred as to why those extravagantly school girls got pregnant? Did they not apply tax shelter or was it simply just an accident or malfunction with the protection? However, both circumstances present the question of how call down grooming is taught to high school teenagers, just like those on television. Do they come from high schools that instruct abstinence only curriculums, abstinence-and-contraceptive use curriculums, or neither? The real question is, should high schools be using an abstinence-only curriculum or should they be presenting options and educating their students on multiplex ways to prevent pregnancy and cozyly transmitted diseases. With sound, scientific research to validate the argument, schools and teachers should be encouraging safe sex and the use of contraceptives rather than simply teaching to abstain from sexual activity.
To draw such an opinion though, one must crawl in what each curriculum would usually contain. Studies conducted by Chris Collins, M.P.P.; Priya Alagiri, J.D.; and Todd Summers generalize abstinence-only curriculums to embarrass discussions of values, character building, andrefusal skills (1).



A lesson plan that teaches just abstinence fundamentally promotes one thing: celibacy from sex until marriage. Abstinence-only education does teach that there are benefits to be acquired from abstaining from sexual activity including, social, psychological, and wellness gains (Reece 171). When a teen rifles pregnant, reliable friendships and family ties tend to disintegrate and become weaker, leaving the teenager with no one to rely on and/or confide in. If health complications were to arise, they could possibly endanger the barbarian or the mother, and could leave permanent damage, requiring a lifetime of particular care or even death.
