Set in a venial township in Maycomb, Alabama around the 1930s, the story started during the imprint era in the American South. A lot of racialism and discouragement to the blacks began. After the first trial the judge hasnt decided if Tom is innocent or guilty. He went back to jail and attempts to escape but the prison guards end up shooting him eightfold times in the back as he tries to rising over the massive prison gate.
Atticus is showing courage by sticking up for Tom, risking his reputation to help out Tom. Atticus embarrassed Bob when he was confessing in court. Tom shows strength to overcome racism throughout the whole book, the whites never stop discouraging the blacks.
I know the real exposition to racism but my point of view is that you treat a person differently due to their skin color or the way they act. I think black people tranquil rate low to some whites.
